OHIO STADIUM HAS A REAL GRASS PLAYING FIELD FOR FIRST TIME IN TEN YEARS FOR TONIGHT’S INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONS CUP SOCCER EVENT! Also, The Bag Policy for The Shoe Reviewed

Excitement is at a peak as Ohio Stadium has been transformed from a world class football field with state-of-the-art artificial turf to a world class soccer field with a mandatory grass playing field…all for tonight’s International Champions Cup soccer match between two of the most popular teams in the world: Real Madrid v. Paris Saint-Germain!

For one night only Ohio Stadium will feature a sporting event played on real grass for the first time since 2006! What did it take to make The Shoe ready for the largest attendance for any soccer event ever in the state of Ohio?

It was a four day process that began with 22 large semis and one flatbed truck, each transporting at least 24 rolls of sod from New Jersey. Workers from Rhode Island took two days to cover the field with more than 550 rolls of sod.  The field was first covered with a special protective covering before the grass was installed. It was an ‘art and a science’ as you can see from the video below how it was expertly laid perfectly from one row to the next.

The field was painted with the regulatory boundary lines on the third day; and on the fourth day, which was the day before the event, the field was tweaked and final preparations were made to be set for the exciting July 27 match-up featuring two of the best-loved soccer teams in the world.

The four-day process was captured in an impressive time lapse by OSU Athletics, which can be viewed below.

More than 70,000 fans are expected to attend this historic Columbus event. With the number of people at Ohio Stadium combined with a Demi Lovato & Nick Jonas concert at the nearby Schottenstein Center, fans need to plan accordingly as there will be higher than normal traffic.

Also, Ohio Stadium has adopted a new Bag Policy. Check out the video below for specifics on what will and will not be allowed in Ohio Stadium for all events at the venue.
